That's probably for the better. They would just have tried to trick you out of it, by focusing your attention on other distractions.
Perhaps the helpline's main purpose is simply to exist -- so by simply calling, you already acknowledge that you don't want to die.

Also, the name is a misnomer. It sounds like they want to help me commit suicide, which is not their mandate.

Why do you want to commit suicide? It's well-known that life is pointless and many times painful -- but it's not like there is any alternative whatsoever. (Nothingness is not an alternative :P.) Just enjoy the short painful ride while it lasts?

No paths in life are effortless. That is, I can't do nothing and live. I choose to do nothing. Thus, I no longer wish to live.
If it were possible to live without effort to survive, well, that would be a rather different story.
