Well, blargh, I guess some development was done with tact (ie. Darwin waiting 40 years or whatever, for fear of offending tightasses, before releasing his work, which was still neglected despite all his preparation), while other development was done without tact (Richard Dawkins' in-your-face Pope-is-a-pedophile, et cetera). I would hardly call it any kind of underpinning though -- just a personal style.
