>The point is, you want things to be open.

Actually, following your analogy ... seems like you want things to be closed.

>Who the fuck still uses "phone" and "sms"

Have you ever noticed those 10-digit numbers? You know, usually separated by hyphens. Example: 123-382-5968. Those are called TELEPHONE numbers. Seems like plenty of people still use them.

>So, $60 for 5gig -- meh, I'll pass

That's the choice here. 5 gigs or nothing. So you went with nothing. I have 25Mbit unlimited internet at home, and a 5Mbit - 5gig internet anywhere I go. Who wins? =)

Funny you complain about archaic nature of phones and sms, and yet, you don't actually don't have a replacement.

And don't talk to me about being archaic. You're still fuckin obsessed with a 15 year old window manager and you think the pinnacle of web development was achieved in the early 90s. My friend, the world has long left you behind. You're rapidly turning into one of those farts who sits around and reminisces about the golden age of their youth. Nothing but a side-show to any passerby ;)

What is it with you people and these wild projections. My "15 year old window manager" does more than yours, and better and faster. Why would I waste time upgrading to a slower crappier WM? And who ever said the pinnacle was the 90s? All I argue for is open standards, and in the case of JavaShit, something that actually works. And my youth was pretty hellish. How about you stick to facts and things you know, instead of insulting speculation?

>And my youth was pretty hellish.

You may have convinced yourself of this ... yes.

> And who ever said the pinnacle was the 90s?

I did about you. Because it's true.

>All I argue for is open standards

No, you don't. You don't give two shits about open standards. What you argue for is an inferior, archaic world that nobody wants to go back to because that just so happened to be the first thing you were exposed to.

JavaScript is an _open standard_ (formalized as ECMAScript). An incredibly exciting technology that countless companies are pouring billions of dollars into.   And you, the old fart that you are, you don't get it. Running a full-featured, rich application by simply navigating any old browser to a URL, sound exciting? Yep. But you don't get it. How about being able to push thousands of polygons per second and create high resolution CG worlds, by again, simply navigating any web-browser to a url, exciting? Not to you, you don't get it.

Kinda like how an old fart doesn't get what this new fangled internets are for. Why, he says, i can just mail letters.

I've already explained the problems with JavaShit in another thread [1] a few days ago -- and it's not it's openness as I even mentioned here. Read more carefully next time.

So tell me, why is everyone (except you) so excited by it. Why are countless startups basing their products around it. Why are huge companies throwing billions of dollars into JS related development. Why do millions of users love it.

See, you.don't.get.it. You just don't, and it's sad. I think the problem is you have an inflated ego and cannot see the limits of your reasoning.
