One person once told me they couldn't understand or see the point of self-improvement, dealing with trauma or a healthier lifestyle (which is just a symptom of depression, imo, if they cannot envision a happier/better future, or perhaps they don't equate health with happiness...). A loss of hope seems to be the general theme when I inquire why people (myself included when in the middle of an existential crisis) don't want to deal with their issues. Which troubles me as I really want people to deal with their baggage as this is what I think would solve many of the worlds problems. Happy people don't want to kill each other :)

I think here is where Molyneux's cult really shines -- these shallow fearful people are free to be shallow and fearful, and we are free to stay the fuck away from them. (Defoo, etc.)

I think that is too conditional for my tastes. Yes it is hard and painful to sit back and watch people self-destruct and know that no matter what I say or do they will not change without intrinsic motivation, but for various reasons certain people have gotten under my skin and letting them go because they are afraid is just not my style. Empathy and trying to understand where they are coming from is. It ain't easy but the positive emotions they give me outweigh the negative ones, so as long as that scale stays that way I stay :)
