how am i able to post without logging in? do passwords mean nothing?

through the magic of browser cookies -- small text files that your browser keeps, that are able store things like session ids, which prove that you have previously been verified and granted the privilege of a session with us. DUH!

You stay logged in until you click the "logout" link on the top right hand side to avoid annoying constantly needing to log in.
