Well, would you say a good learner is a hard-working student, or the one that doesn't have to work that hard, but can still make the grade?

I would say a good learner would be a bad student--that is, a bad player in the game of state-education. State-education inevitably emphasizes shallow learning and preoccupation with grades, and secondarily real understanding.

Real understanding - that was in highschool, and I lost a lot of marks. University...man, the competition was fierce. First year, I went for "real understanding"; I ended up in probation - stupid Psych 100, then decided to play the game 'cause I needed the credential.
