Well, I suppose they hinted at it--losing all your money in the stocks would be a good motive. Though it's a pretty stupid thing to do.
I know in India it's common for bankrupt farmers to commit suicide--whether it's due to fluctuating markets, or disastrous storms, etc. Specifically, men. And, really, it's a very common thing for men to do, be it bankrupted "providers" of families, or taliban suicide bombers, or any soldier. And I suspect the reason it's so popular is that they get a lot more respect/sex while they're alive. So, as usual, women are to blame for encouraging this behavior.
