I don't think anything was placed in it's mouth. My theory is that bees are carniverous. Or maybe scavengers. The entire mouth area has been gnawed to the bone now.

I have discovered vulture bees! .. Only 25 years too late :'(

Apparently they were only discovered 25 years ago (1982).
