Thinking of wasting money on one.
Someone talk me out of it.

Pros: I'll take some nice pictures.   I can pretend to be another wannabe photographer(might be a con).

Cons: MONEY. Probably end up not using it too much.

If you already have a digital camera (any digital camera), it's a luxury item.

If you don't ... I'd get the cheapest one possible. (Which is waay better than my first 1.3M, which, really was and still is good enough.)

1024x768 memories are pretty much the same as 5000x2000 memories. Moreover, current displays can't even handle that resolution anyways.

Save your money instead.

Digital SLRs are more than just high-resolution digital cameras. They have better image processors, they let you take pictures faster, and more control over things like focus and aperture. You can really take pictures with a dSLR that you can't with a normal camera.

Having said that, you need to know how to use the settings to use a dSLR effectively. If you intend on leaving it on the "auto" setting, you might as well get a good point-and-shoot digital camera for a couple hundred dollars. And you'll get tired of carrying a huge camera and lens around to every place where you want to take a picture. If you don't intend on using it on a regular basis, it's just not worth the money and time investment.
