And who cares. It's all absurd monopoly money that they print on a whim, and spend on whims too. If you care about your wealth, you would keep it in real assets, gold, or possibly bitcoins.

Yes, but enough people see value in it for me to keep playing the game.

Well ... depends. If you think that the likelihood of the collapse of monopoly money within our lifetimes is high, then by all means, buy gold and bitcoins. If you don't, then it makes sense to keep playing monopoly and use the colorful paper to buy land, stocks, ipads, cars and bicycles.
