Noam Chompsky is an Anarchist? Socialist?

Is there a difference? He doesn't seem to think so.

He did a Q&A with reddit. Question was posed:
Although as an anarchist you favour a stateless society in the long run, you've argued that it would be a mistake to work for the elimination of the state in the short run, and that indeed we should be trying to strengthen the state right now, because it's needed as a check on the power of large corporations...

His answer:http://www.youtube.com/wa...XjaZ9HY#t=15m46s (around 15min 46se).

The question essentially summarizes his answer, with his addition that support for a state-less society is not practical and his default (or pragmatic) position is Socialism. How do you go from Anarchism to Socialism?

Didn't I always maintain that Anarchism is Socialism in a cheap suit? I could be wrong, but Noam Chompsky's position definitely implies a connection between the two.

He is an Unabashed State Socialist

God damn that was painful to listen to.

"Why can't we all just avoid our petty differences AND DO WHAT I SAY!? Wha wha wha."

He's obviously not an anarchist, and really should dis-associate himself with that label. Even in his utopian end-game, he's a statist -- but magically assumes, yet again, that everyone will agree with him.

I also find it shocking that he hasn't heard of things like http://freestateproject.org -- which are pretty viable "advocacies" (not proposals) to abolish the state.

I also find it kindof enjoyable to see him (and people like him, *cough* dave) squirm in perplexion, as to why they can't garner enough support. Maybe it's cuz the actually good/productive people don't like being enslaved, and the only people that would sign up are lazy/unproductive/morally-loose (evil) losers. Fail.

I also find it fascinating observing his brainwashing. He still believes, and thus perpetuates, the idea of The State -- that there is actually some connection between citizens in California and in New York -- that the former have any obligation to the latter. Bewildering. And the irony of his constant warning about shooting oneself in the feet isn't lost on me.
