Monkeys
posted by dennisn on March 4th, 2009 at 1:06PM

Once upon a time a man appeared in a village and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each. The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $10 and, as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He next announced that he would now buy monkeys at $20 each. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so scarce it was an effort to even find a monkey, let alone catch it! The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50 each! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would buy on his behalf. In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers: ‘Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has already collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each.’ The villagers rounded up all their savings and bought all the monkeys for 700 billion dollars.

They never saw the man or his assistant again, only lots and lots of monkeys!

Now you have a better understanding of how the Wall Street Bailout Plan will work.

Hey, did you come up with this story?   Or you stole it from somewhere?

I /copied/ it from another blog I rss from. (Nothing was stolen. See http://dennisn.mooo.com/m...ory.php?sid=4882 for clarification.). I did describe the bailout more realistically in http://dennisn.mooo.com/m...ory.php?sid=4567 , but that didn't change Rickmeister's mind.

Why? Is it convincing? Are you against the bailout? Maybe you should cast your vote in http://dennisn.mooo.com/m...ory.php?sid=4553

I can't make up my mind.   I'm too analytical, that's why I try stay away from politics.

In fairness, I suppose it is a little sneaky and misleading to be singling out the bailout, since it is really The State that is the problem, and the bailout is merely one of the endless manifestations of it's evilness.

Vina, you have been brainwashed. Don't worry though, you're not alone. Everyone else here is too, with the possible exception of one other person. You have been brainwashed to believe that it is ok for some people (democratically elected, or whatever) to force me to do things *at gunpoint* (http://dennisn.mooo.com/m...ory.php?sid=5084 ).

So, with respect to the bailout, or any other government program, this is the only question I expect you to answer. "Is it ok for me, Vina, to pay for violent armed thugs to break into Dennis' house, to steal his hard-earned property in order to pay for the reckless and evil gambling of some bankers, in order save my own investments?"

Why do you expect me to answer by Vina on March 5th, 2009 at 7:09PM.
