Re: Bureaucracy rules!
posted by dsk on January 2nd, 2005 at 2:41PM In all fairness its not "bureaucracy", but more of a question of resources and allocation of them.
Your suggestion might or might not fix your problem, but in either case it would require someone to sit-down and fix it and test it. There are three problems with this: 1 Fixing something like this costs money or time. The web dev guy in fixing this would have to be pulled away from whatever he normally does. Yes it is a trival change but if you're swamped with work, even trival change is too much. 2 I happen to know that EasyWeb works with Firefox quite well (even though its not "supported"), so the incentive for the web dev to go out of his way to fis this is low. The relatvive percentage of users who use Firefox with default background set to "black" is extremely low to users who use IE, Netscape, Firefox (Default settings) etc. If you service millions of customers and only get one complaint about a specific aspect of your service there is little incentive to go and fix it. It would be nice, but don't expect it. 3 "If its not broken, don't fix it". Generally speaking you don't want to fuck around with "mission critical" stuff unless you have to. A CSS change (even a trivial one) is a *major* issue. One complaint is probably not enought to warrant looking into it. </ol> Once again, it would be nice if they fixed it for you, but there might be some good reasons why they wouldn't immediately. |
