hated it
posted by dennisn on December 23rd, 2003 at 6:04PM i hated that movie. with passion. it has to be one of the worst movies i've ever seen - from a story point of view. the computer graphics, though, were obviously good. i guess i wasn't as disappointed with the first two episodes because they seemed like a gentle preface into the real story - which never actually happened. although, in fairness, there's no substitute for reading the book (yet) .. the imagination is simply far too advanced, compared to movies.
basically, there was no decent story. just mindless, random, childish inventions. i suppose i most most disappointed by the lack of realism. i don't mean to say fictional characters/places are bad - no - but the way they were portrayed .. it was just waaay too mindless, unrealistic, and childish .. everything was always over-simplified .. the good guys always won .. there were no "gray" characters .. only pure good and pure evil .. .. no dilemmas .. just mindless "kill the disgusting orcs" mentality. i'd give it negative a few stars, if i could. i probably would have enjoyed it when i was young and stupid .. but not now. i'd compare it to watching teletubbies for 4hrs (which i've never done .. just glanced at) |

posted by jess on December 23rd, 2003 at 3:53PM The ending was dragged out wasn't it? But overall, the movie was /amazing/. I loved every minute of it! Ooh, the part where Eowen takes off her helmet and says she's not a guy, that was awesome. :)
Now all I'm waiting for is the next Harry Potter film ... I wonder who's taking over as Albus Dumbledore? |
good movie
posted by rick on December 23rd, 2003 at 1:13AM As someone who hasn't read the book, it was an excellent movie from both the action and storytelling point of view. Obviously the action was intense and well worth the price of the ticket alone. The characters were very well developed as well; I guess you can't go wrong with the level of description from a Tolkien book. There were parts that dragged on too long, like the last few scenes at the end of the movie, but this was easily the best movie of the year for me. (Even better than Nemo ...)
