What's the point of a union and striking, if they can be forced back to work?

(On a pleasant side note, the city is beautifully quiet today. And I'm sure the air is a lot cleaner. I HATE THOSE LOUD POLLUTING PIECES OF SHIT.) (not to mention their legislated theft of honest, uninvolved, citizens).

heh. 3% raise per year for the next 3 years wasn't enough I suppose.

I liked thier arguments.

Well miss transit get paid more (they are the highest paid) but the TTC wouldn't have it any other way if they weren't the highest paid.

I think the miss transit had same argument saying TTC workers get more like a year ago.

What about all the other transit workers from other cities and even greyhound so on.   They make considerably less.

Also they bitch about having to work 12 hours shifts.   4 hours of work, 4 hour break and then 4 hours of work.   Shit I'd kill for that kind of 12 hour shift.   My old 12 hours shifts had a total of 1 ½ hours of breaks that includes lunch (and only got paid for half of my breaks).

There are reported cases of the ticket booth guy making over 100g a year.   Don't know any normal job with maxed out overtime that would give that kind of money.

So I hope they strike for good and people learn to live without it.   A private sector would likely slowly replace the current one and wouldn't surprise me if the tickets would be cheaper too.

I'm pretty sure the drivers were happy with the deal -- the problem, in my extensive research, was the hitherto ignored maintenance workers who, as I understand it, were given very little job security in the contract. (Ie. their jobs were threatened to be outsourced to external contractors). (Not that that's a bad thing -- I'm all for private funding. I don't really use the ttc -- why should I pay for it? (RHETORICAL QUESTION!))

Also, a 12h shift, unless you love your job, is pretty shitty, I don't care how many breaks or bribes you get.

Actually I work at a place

where the 12hr shift was norm until they changed it.
Anyone who I talk to preferred the 12hour shift me included. I had a long weekend every weekend, lost less time overall getting to work.

So I find it kind of strange how you claim 12hrs is shitty coming from someone who never worked one.   Overtime shifts and 12 hrs normal shifts arent the same just for the record.

Well, just to clarify things, by dennisn on April 26th, 2008 at 2:29PM.
